Meet the Team: Nica

Nica works full-time in Marketing for JettProof and is the only daughter of JettProof founder Michelle.

Do you remember when JettProof first started? What are your earliest memories of it?

I remember it vividly. JettProof began in our family home. I remember coming home from school and seeing fabrics and patterns on the kitchen table while my little brother Jett was walking around in prototypes. One time, I asked mum, "How is he so calm today?" Then she showed me his singlet. I didn't believe at first that a sensory singlet could make him so calm! Fast forward to today, and he has worn it for over 12 years.

Michelle is both your mum and boss. What's that like, and what's the best advice she has given you?

It's definitely a unique dynamic! We have fun together, but we also do a lot of important work behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. The best work-related advice she has given me is never to make a big decision straight away and to 'sleep on it'.

Do you ever find it hard to "switch off" from work when it's also part of family life?

Definitely, JettProof has always been part of my everyday life, so sometimes work conversations happen at dinner or on weekends without even meaning to. But at the same time, it doesn't always feel like "just work" because it has changed our lives for the better.

How would you describe your relationship with Jett?

Jett and I have always had a good friendship - I am 15 years older than him, so I will always play that protective sister role, no matter how old he gets. We have a lot of laughs together, and we bond over gaming.
Jett has always been an amazing uncle to my children - he is so patient, caring and attentive.

What's something you really admire about him?

Probably his resilience. He's been through a lot and overcome so many challenges. He is so smart, and his ability to remember dates and times is incredible (he definitely has a better memory than me!).

What do you think are some of the strengths that come from growing up in a neurodiverse family?

I think it's taught me empathy really early on. You become more aware that everyone experiences the world differently, and I think it also makes you more understanding.

What advice would you give to other siblings who might be navigating a similar experience?

I would say never lose hope. Jett used to be nonverbal, and we were told he would never be verbal, but he has proved the experts wrong in many different ways!

What makes you most proud when you think of the success of JettProof and how it started?

JettProof was started to give everyone who would benefit from the singlet the opportunity to access it. We could have just used it for Jett and left it at that, but instead, our family wanted to help other families experiencing similar things.

Have there been moments where you've really felt the impact of what your family has built?

Definitely, when families share their stories with us, sometimes people tell us things they've struggled with for years, and hearing that a product has helped even a little bit makes it worth it.

You've worked across so many areas of JettProof—how did your journey with the business begin?

I first started by helping prepare and pack orders in the garage, and as the business grew, my role evolved too. Over time, I moved into working on the website and using my creative skills to create content and marketing.

What does your current role in the marketing team involve?

A bit of everything, honestly. I work across content creation, social media, product sourcing and the website - every day is different, which keeps it exciting and never boring!

How does growing up in the JettProof story influence your work in marketing?

I think it makes everything feel more personal. I'm not just marketing a product - I know the story behind why it exists and the families we're helping.

What excites you most about the future of JettProof?

Just continuing to help more families. Seeing how much awareness around sensory needs and neurodiversity has grown is really exciting.

Is there anything you'd love people to know about JettProof that they might not already?

That there are real people and a real family behind it. Everything comes from lived experience, and I think that's what makes JettProof so special.
