From Meltdowns to Mission

How a Search for Connection Led to a Revolutionary Invention

We are thrilled to share an incredible milestone in the JettProof journey: our founder, Michelle Ebbin, took to the TEDx stage to share her deeply personal and powerful story with the world. In her moving talk, Michelle opened up about her son Jett, her background in textiles, and how a mother's love led to creating a globally recognised sensory brand.

A Global Platform for a Personal Story

Being invited to speak at TEDx is more than an honour—it's an industry recognition of an "idea worth spreading." TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, began in 1984 as a conference to share breakthrough ideas across disciplines. Since then, TED Talks have grown into a global phenomenon, with over a billion views online and speakers ranging from Nobel Prize winners and scientists to everyday people whose stories spark change.

TEDx events are independently organised under TED's global guidelines, providing local communities a platform to elevate voices with transformative stories. Over the years, TEDx has welcomed speakers like Brené Brown, who redefined how we think about vulnerability, Sir Ken Robinson, whose talk on creativity in education became the most viewed TED Talk of all time, and Temple Grandin, who offered profound insights into living with Autism and helped lay the foundation for compression based sensory care from which Michelle Ebbin built.

Now, JettProof joins that legacy. Michelle Ebbin's taking the TEDx stage and sharing her journey from struggling mum to global entrepreneur is a defining moment for our team and every family navigating sensory challenges. Her talk helps bring the conversation about neurodiversity, sensory regulation, and innovation into the spotlight where it belongs.

A Mother's Love Meets Innovation

In her TEDx talk, Michelle speaks candidly about her son Jett, who was diagnosed with Autism, Global Developmental Delay, and Sensory Processing Disorder at the age of three. Like many parents of neurodiverse children, she was faced with daily meltdowns, challenges with regulation, and a feeling of helplessness. Determined to help her son, Michelle drew on her 20+ years of experience in the textile industry to create a solution that would change Jett's life and the lives of families worldwide.

During the TEDx talk, you'll also have the chance to meet Jett himself—a bright and curious young man with a passion for weather and rainfall worldwide. His remarkable progress is a testament to the daily use of JettProof calming singlets, which have helped him self-regulate, thrive, and confidently pursue his interests.

The Beginning of JettProof

What began as a single calming compression singlet to support her son quickly transformed into JettProof—an award-winning range of sensory compression clothing made with innovative Calmtex® fabric. Designed to provide gentle, consistent pressure to support emotional regulation, JettProof garments have now become trusted by thousands of families and professionals across the globe. Each piece is Australian-made and tailored for individuals with Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, Sensory Processing Disorder and other neurological conditions.

A Talk That Resonates

Michelle's TEDx talk is more than a story of innovation—it's a heartfelt message of hope, resilience, and purpose. Her journey from a desperate mother to the founder of an internationally respected brand is a beacon of light for families navigating similar paths. One of the key takeaways from her talk is the reminder that real change often starts from a place of personal need and deep compassion.

Michelle's TEDx appearance is a proud moment for the JettProof team. It reflects how far we've come and how much more we're ready to do. From our collaboration with La Trobe University on a world-first study to new product innovations, we remain committed to improving the daily lives of those with sensory needs.

Why Sensory Support Matters

Michelle also highlights the critical need for accessible and practical sensory support. Sensory garments like JettProof provide calming, proprioceptive input to help individuals regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and improve daily function. With more families accessing JettProof through NDIS funding, the conversation around sensory care is growing—and Michelle's talk is helping lead that change.
